Soap is the result of combining an acid with a base. In cold process soap making,  oils and butters are the acid and sodium hydroxide (lye) is the base. When combined, a chemical reaction called saponification occurs resulting in soap (salts of fatty acids plus glycerine).

Many commercial manufacturers remove the glycerine during this process to be sold as a separate commodity with much greater financial gain. Handcrafted soap however retains all of its natural glycerine and being a humectant, helps to retain moisture in the skin. This makes for a more gentle and moisturising soap.

All our soap is made to our own formulation using traditional cold process soap making methods and high quality ingredients. Each of our soaps is made with a combination of Shea butter, coconut oil, olive oil, cocoa butter and castor oil. Our products are created  in small batches and each soap is finished by hand. All our products are suitable for vegans and vegetarians and are safety assessed to conform with European cosmetic product regulations.

Please be aware that our soaps contain oils from tree nuts which may make it unsuitable for those with nut allergies. Please read the ingredients list carefully before using any product.

Handmade Soap can break down sooner if left standing in water for too long. To ensure you get the best from your Lava Naturals bar keep it on a well drained surface enabling it to dry between uses.
